Chris Claude, USMC

2017 Recipient

  • Chris graduated from Mainland High School, Daytona Beach, FL in 1998

  • Chris enlisted in the Marine Corps straight out of high school

  • He served as Radar Team Leader, Recruiter, and Assistant Battalion Operations Chief with 2nd Battalion 11th Marine Regiment.

  • Chris was selected to be a Military Advisor to Iraq Army Battalion 0841 in Karbala, Iraq in 2005

  • Chris was injured February 20, 2006 by an IED which also took the life of one of his fellow Marines​

    • Chris was airlifted to Baghdad Hospital after 1.5 hours and then transported to Germany for further care

    • During surgery in Germany Chris was administered 67 units of blood and had to be resuscitated with a defibrillator during the surgery

    • His right leg was amputated above the knee.

    • Shrapnel is still lodged in his body.  It frequently surfaces and must be removed with tweezers.

    • Chris suffers from a TBI with migraines.

  • Chris retired in 2007 as Gunnery Sergeant

  • Chris married in 2011 and now lives with his lovely wife and daughter, Genevieve, in Long Pond, PA

 

Chris Claude was presented with his customized motorcycle in Cripple Creek, CO during the Salute to Veterans Rally in August, 2017.
